Before Your Ultrasound
A vein ultrasound is usually your first real step toward answers. It is painless, non-invasive, uses no needles or radiation, and gives Dr. Kim a detailed map of how blood is flowing through your leg veins. Here is what to expect and how to prepare.
Many vein problems are completely invisible from the outside. A duplex ultrasound lets us see which valves are leaking, where blood is pooling, and whether your symptoms originate from the deeper veins. This detailed map allows Dr. Kim to recommend the exact treatment you need rather than guessing.
A trained vascular technologist applies warm gel and glides a small handheld probe along your leg. You may hear a whooshing sound, which is simply the ultrasound machine measuring blood flow. Because gravity affects vein function, part of the exam is usually performed while standing. You may be asked to take a deep breath or gently squeeze your calf muscle so we can evaluate how your valves open and close. The test typically takes 30 to 60 minutes.
There is zero downtime. You can drive yourself home or back to work immediately. Dr. Kim reviews the images with you, explains the diagnostic findings in plain language, and maps out your customized treatment plan.
Don’t let discomfort or visible veins slow you down.
