Case-by-case plans: Medi-Cal and Seoul Medical Group (SMG). Call us and we will verify whether we can see you under your specific network structure.

A Note on Medi-Cal

Medi-Cal coverage in Los Angeles County is frequently contracted out to an IPA. While VWCLA is enrolled with MediCal, we typically cannot see patients whose Medi-Cal benefits are managed through an IPA or HMO. If you have MediCal, call us with your plan details and we will verify your status before you arrive.

A Note on HMO and Medicare Advantage Plans

In California, HMO plans contract with IPAs, which can restrict care to specific physician networks. Many patients call assuming they have Original Medicare when they actually hold a Medicare Advantage plan tied to an IPA, requiring prior authorization. If you are unsure, call our office and we will help you identify your exact coverage.

Do I Need a Referral or Authorization?

Original Medicare and standard PPO plans usually allow you to see us for medically necessary vein and wound care without a referral. HMO, IPA, and Medicare Advantage plans often require prior authorization from your Primary Care Physician (PCP). Call us first, we handle benefit verification for you.

Will My Plan Want Me to Try Compression First?

For most vein conditions, yes. Insurance carriers generally require a documented trial of conservative therapy, typically prescription compression stockings worn for a specified period, before approving vein procedures. Exceptions exist for urgent conditions like active venous ulcers or bleeding veins. If a conservative trial is required, Dr. Kim and our team will guide you through fitting, Unna boot application, or multilayer wrap therapy as clinically indicated.

What Is Covered & Self-Pay Options

Treatment for symptomatic venous disease and chronic wounds is medical care and is typically covered by insurance. Purely cosmetic treatments (such as spider vein removal without symptoms) are not covered. For cosmetic services, we offer transparent self-pay pricing. We do not offer financing options at this time.
